Green Tea and Heart Health

Here is evidence suppporting the direct relationship between lowering cholesterol and consuming Green Tea or Green Tea extract. Below is a summary of the study along with a link to the study abstract.

Green Tea reduces Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol

Evidence to support that the consumption of theaflavin-enriched green tea extract (375 mg) has a significant effect regarding lowering total cholesterol, LDL-C, and triglyceride levels, has been documented in many studies.

A total of 240 men over 18 years of age with mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia were assigned to receive green tea extract capsules or placebo for 12 weeks. The group receiving the green tea extract had a decrease in - "bad cholesterol" - the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) by as much as 16% while the placebo group had no significant change.

"The theaflavin-enriched green tea extract we studied is an effective adjunct to a low-saturated-fat diet to reduce LDL-C in hypercholesterolemic adults and is well tolerated. "

Try this Green Tea

I like this tea myself as it is delicious and very reasonably priced. If you are new to green teas you will like this one. Make sure you follow the brewing instructions! ( Link at bottom of page )

Organic Hunan Green - A little of this tea goes a long way. The leaves are strong and infuse quickly into a deep colored cup. This tea combines economy with the classic richness of a full leafed tea. Infuse for 1-1 1/2 minutes with cooler water (165 degrees) to avoid bitterness. Use less leaves at first to see how many is enough for the taste you enjoy. Organic tea is a healthy way to share in nature’s bounty of antioxidants. Try brewing gongfu style with quick steeps to extract the micronutrients. Use leaves two times with good flavor.
